Privacy Policy — blur

Last updated: March 12, 2026

blur is a Chrome extension for language learning that records YouTube audio clips, transcribes them, and sends flashcards to Anki.

Data Collection

blur does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. There are no user accounts, no analytics, and no tracking.

Data Stored Locally

The following data is stored locally on your device using Chrome’s chrome.storage.local API:

This data never leaves your device except as described below.

External Services

blur communicates with two external services, both initiated by user action:

  1. Google Gemini API — audio clips and text are sent to Gemini for transcription and vocabulary breakdown. This uses your own API key and is governed by Google’s API Terms of Service.
  2. AnkiConnect (localhost) — flashcard data (text, audio, screenshots) is sent to AnkiConnect running locally on your machine at 127.0.0.1:8765. This data does not leave your device.

Permissions

blur requests Chrome permissions solely for its core functionality (tab audio capture, screenshot cropping, video control, and local storage). See the extension’s Chrome Web Store listing for detailed permission justifications.

Third-Party Data Sharing

blur does not sell, share, or transfer any user data to third parties.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL.
